Participating in the Professors’ Open Source Summer Experience, aka POSSE. Today we’re learning all about tools of the trade: IRC, wikis and so on, which allow folks to collaborate effectively without being physically together.
We’re also being introduced to open source as a social phenomenon. I think that’s probably the most fascinating thing about it. Most of the folks I know who are passionate about open source have a deep commitment to the community aspect as well as the philosophical and political sides of free-as-in-freedom software.
